I started using tumblr some weeks ago and I am already in love with it. It happened to me when I was introduced to blogger (Naveen) and then when I discovered wordpress through friends (Renie actually). And it has happened again. I understand tumblr cannot replace wordpress for me, but still there are some points which I really really love about tumblr. To elaborate on it, let me say a little about tumblr.
Tumblr looks like a blog and is not strictly a blog. For example, a blog is structured and we can post many characters on a post (lets say 10000 words per post for argument’s sake). But on a tumblelog (as the folks at Tumble say), you need not even write a post. You can post anything you like without too much work. For example, a link, or a quote, a video, an audio file, or a scrap, etc. The following explanation probable helps in understanding this – straight from tumblr help.
To make a simple analogy: If blogs are journals, tumblelogs are scrapbooks.
Everything else you may expect of a blog are there, of course. You can get your own domain name and use fr your tumblelog, edit css, edit themes, have RSS feeds, etc.
What I have done is to experiment with my blogs anw.in and awesome photos on tumblr. My tumblelog can be found at http://anwin.tumblr.com/ and check it out. I also put a couple of posts independent of posts taken through the RSS feeds of my other blogs. I quite like it. Still not sure why or how it will be of use. Maybe, it will never catch up with me. Or maybe it will. Only time will tell.
Until then, I really urge all bloggers and would be bloggers to take a look at it. It is quite interesting and has a very good future. I like the concept a lot and it is totally Web 2.0.
Disclaimer: All errors are mine and thoughts mine too. I did not see any other reviews about tumblr while writing this. It is my own opinion and no one else’s.
