Thanks a ton for the tips Anwin. I suppose I will club the 2 tasks – getting a domain name; and moving to feed-burner – so that I only have to ask my subscribers to change the Feed Url ONCE!

Dude, Kiran, I am araid it looks like the only way to keep your feeds the same is to sign up for feedburner. Unfortunately, you will have to send emails and put in comments on the blogs of your readers asking them to update the feed. Starting out at feedburner is the best way to go since you may feel like moving to your own hosting later on. In that case, it is far easier to manage your feedburner feeds.

Hi Anwin,

Your discussion about hosting and domain names was indeed very insightful; so much so that I am just about to take the plunge with my blog.

I was just about to purchase a domain name for my blog on blogger, using the option provided within blogger. I remember the discussions that the advantage of this is the old site still exists and redirects to the new one. I have a doubt though – what about feeds? Will my existing readers have to re-point their feed-readers to my NEW feed URL ?

I am not using feed-burner – just the default feed widget provided with blogger. I read that I can register with feedburner – using which I get feed statistics without my readers having to change edit the feed subscription. But I am worried about losing my existing subscribers of I change to a domain name or self-hosted blog.

I realize that this still does not qualify as “self-hosting” .. since all I am really doing is purchasing my own domain for what still remains to be essentially a blogger blog!

Any advise you would like to give me before I jump headlong into the world of domain names and self-hosting ?
