We were supposed to me at the monthly ASK / IAH (The Aquarist Soceity of Karnataka / Indian Aquarium Hobbyist) meeting at 9:30 AM today. But when I woke up it was already past 11. Woo! That was a good night’s sleep
.
I still wanted to make it to the meet though. So I called up Shreyas (from IAH who has twins from the last 5 months) around 12 noon and asked if we can still make it. I suspected we could, so we were already dressed, hehehehe. Shreyas said the meeting was still on. So we got into our bikes and reached his house soon enough.
As usual, it was refreshing to be at an IAH meeting. Lots of digs at each other and ribbing around. Shreyas, the host, had a huge planted tank with fan tailed guppies and other fishes most notably some cardinal tetras. Really beautiful ones.
After a sumptuous lunch of bisilbelle bath (yeah, I did eat that), curd rice, rasam and more veg we broke up. At least Surya Niki, one of the IAH guys and owns a hobbyist aquarium shop in Indiranagar, wanted to leave. Since I had asked him for some microworms culture for my second betta fry, Nafisa and I left too.
When we reached his house we were surprised to see quite a few aquarium tanks. And he apparently loves Dwarf cichlids with quite a bunch of exotic fishes around. I am unable to name them since I am not so good at fish names. But I do remember that he had some varieties of Rams.
When we were looking at his imported Cambodian, we came to know that he wanted to unload them and make way for a bigger breeding tank. So along with the Cambodian Bettas we also got to keep the tank. Wow! Thanks mate. After learning how to culture Micro worms and equipped with a starter culture of micro worms (for my betta fry or young ones) we made our way home.
When we came home we realised we needed some more plants. We had also got some plants and moss from Shreyas’ house earlier. So we also made a trip tp the local fish store (LFS) for some sand, stones and live plants.
We also got a double tail betta splendens. Nice! Then after the weekly cleaning of fish tanks and bowls we planted the new tank.
It was a Sunday well spent.
More pictures at the IAH forum. By the way, Surya also gave us a pack of freeze dried blood worms. Amazing stuff. My betta fishes are going to be the most beautiful and colorful from now on with good food
.

Hi Rajib, sure. I can help you out. Are you based out of Bangalore?

We’ll buy another red double tail. soon. And breed them too. That will be fun to watch the young ones grow to become double tails. Never tried that before.

Once I had to travel for few days and gave my fish bowl to my neighbor along with the fish food tin.Upon return the neighbors gave the news of the death of my 2 guppies
They over fed them and killed!! Reading you, I so wanna get one soon!
Hey,nice to know that there is actually a Aquarist Soceity. hehe. And look at that pic where ppl are standing so obedient, respectful around the fish tank.hehehe. Nice

Hi Rocksea, thanks for commenting. Yeah, I am a great fish lover, albeit a lazy. So I am more fond of betta splendens rather than planted tanks because of low maintenance
. I will definitely get myself a fish pond when I get my own house..heheheh
Sree, thanks for the comments. This usually happens. That’s why I leave the fishes at home and not give to anybody. The worst that could happen is that they will starve. But death is mostly rare as long as you did a proper water change before leaving.
Yes, if you are based out Bangalore I would love to put you in touch with IAH.in and also become an active member. Let me know.

OMG WOW! I was looking up to see what doubletail betta fry looks like and your DT male looks like mine’s twin! Only Morbid doesnt have so much blue. They could pass for being from the same spawn its scary lol. Did you ever attempt to breed him? I am attempting to breed Morbid to a nice black orchid crowntail female (that has some doubletail’s in her lineage) and see what happens. Also trying to breed red dalmatian bettas. I would love to eventually cross the 2 lines and try for some Delta/Halfmoon doubletail dalmatians. Ive never seen or heard of a DT Dal, so its worth a try.
Good luck on your betta fry!
