Update: The male ate all the eggs. The SOB. Dang!!!
My foray into breeding special types of bettas has finally started. Couple of days back I introduced the male copper black super delta (Copper Black SDT Male) male betta into the new jungle-like spawning tank. I say jungle-like because I have kept too many types of aquatic plants inside that it is quite difficult to follow the inhabitants inside. This is the same tank that I got from Surya at IAH. The poor cambodian plakats got evicted and bottled. I say poor, because the buggers are seriously depressed now and I am trying my level best to cheer them up. Hahahaha!
Anyways, the pair spawned and yesterday I ran home eagerly to find a pretty strong bubble nest and lots of eggs. Too dark to see how many, but hopefully at least a hundred. Hehehehe. Will confirm things by Saturday when hopefully the buggers would have hatched.
The male’s picture is below. I had purchased the pair of Copper Bettas from IAH Shubhankar from Pune. You can see a picture of the male below. I will post better pictures when I take them. I have to do with my old Canon powershot and I am not at home in the day time to take new pictures

I will take some more pictures on Saturday and also of the female and post them later this weekend. As most betta fans will know, the male will take care of the eggs and the hatched fry for some time. Some people will leave the male to take care of the young for a month while most people remove the male after the fry start free swimming. I belong to the second category so I will remove the male as soon as the fry can swim for themselves.
Hopefully, the eggs will start hatching tonight or tomorrow morning. And then more pictures. This is most exciting and I really wish I will get a hundred black copper deltas.

Great news! It is always a wonder to watch the bubble nest, the fertilized yellow eggs and the tiny fries. Yes i guess it is better to remove the male if there are no other predators!
Sad news man, the male ate all the eggs. I have a feeling the eggs were not fertilized or the dad is seriously a bad father. Damn damn and triple damn.
Next time I am spawning the buggers when I am at home all day so I can watch and out and take appropriate action.
What a Rip-off!! Hope for better luck next time.
hmm… hopefully they will learn to be good parents in time. patience, patience
Hahahaha… yeah, it is not really a rip off or anything. Sometimes things have to be tried again and again to get it right… hehehehe.
And like rocksea said, the internet is full of success stories of the male ‘turning around’ in the next spawn
yes sorry to know that he ate the eggs,
if you find the answer why this happened let us know.
It still looks like the male did not fertilize the eggs
Next try after another 12 days or so. Hopefully, the pair would have learnt from the past mistakes.. heheheh.
Hi Anwin How is life I thought what is he talking about till I saw the nice fish. My husband and son both like fish I only like dolphins but they won’t fir in your tank
Hi Marja, glad to see that you are visiting friends and their blogs
. Dolphins can be kept as pets too I suppose if only the law allows it
man, I had one of these…these guys dont like each other do they?..the fighter fish…anyways it met its end when i changed water…i kinda put it back in the Sand City tap water…poor guy was boiled to death…had to make up a whole speel to my son abt reincarnation etc to get him to smile again….
Tys, that was a sad story
. I’ve had numerous such incidents when I was a kid too. It was quite difficult for me to understand that water is not the same for fishes as it is for us…hehehehe. But these days I am really careful, to a certain extent.
