Diwali 2009 Pictures

A little late I know, but the pics were just lying around and so…

There were showers of blessing that day, and badly ringing ears. We could hear firecrackers going boom all day and night.

Some crazy settings with my camera I suppose, and hence the light delay in the photograph. Cool effect.

Fosters Aoc Party!!!!

Hello everyone. I am Nafisa. This is my very first post :) as a guest blogger on Anwin’s Blog.

Me, Anwin, Diana & Anoop went to Fosters Art of chilling Poolside party last weekend on 10 th of Oct at Lalit Ashok Bangalore city Hotel. We landed at the party on an empty stomach, so the first thing we did was attack the food. There was lot of mouth watering options for meat eaters ;) – fresh clams, Beef steaks, Pork ribs….etc. They had arranged spray paints and a huge canvas board at one corner for the crowd to paint their thoughts; we too did a little scribbling on it :)

“IndiBlogger.in Chilled here”

Afternoon started with little showers of rain, Foster’s Hat came in handy  and saved us from getting drenched. After having a satisfying lunch we sat down for Beer to chill our self from hot sun, the pool looked so tempting that we all wanted to soak our body in the water, unfortunately we didn’t come prepared.

Anoop and Diana Chilling out….

Later, Bharath & Naveen joined us with their companions. For a change there was a band playing fusion music, which was ok but didn’t blend quiet well with the atmosphere.

Squeezing to fit in the frame Indiblogger team and friends…..

Thanks for your invitation Fosters and I would like to be there again. After having unlimited beer with awesome grilled meat who wont enjoy, I know I did!!

Thanks Diana for the pics :)

Mr. Big, An Energetic And Refreshing Concert Experience

True to the expectations, Mr. Big concert was a real experience in Hard Rock, Metal and Rock music. It was a very tightly packed 2 hour musical affair at Palace Grounds last Saturday.

First we went off to the Foster’s Art of Chilling Poolside party at Lalit Ashok. There we ate a lot of awesome Beef steaks and Pork ribs. Yummmmm!!!

Then we went off to Mr. Big concert. When the lights began to change Mr. Big started the concert with a song we didn’t expect – Daddy, Brother, Lover, Little Boy. Wow. That was the beginning of a very energetic and lively rock concert. Some of the songs they played are from my previous post about songs I wanted to hear at the concert – notably Just Take My Heart, Colorado Bulldog (that was freakin’ awesome), Wild World (Of, course), Green Tinted Sixties Mind, To Be With You, and some other songs like Temperamental.

Some highlights of the concert:

1) Eric (the singer) turned 49 that day and celebrated his birthday on stage with other band members, and us, the crowd

2) Billy Sheehan (Bassist and Founding member) and Paul Gilbert (guitarist) showed their guitar prowess at various times between songs and with solo performances.

3) Billy Sheehan picked up the mike and gave his bass guitar to Eric and went on to sing a cover of Deep Purple’s Smoke on the Water. Electric!!! Pat Torpey took the guitars while Paul took to drums for this part. Then Pat Torpey took the mike and started singing the remaining verse of Smoke on the Water. Very nicely done.

4) Mr. Bid did two encores… hehehehe. Anoop said they will definitely stay for two encores, and it came to pass. We loved it, even though we thought it weird :)

5) Above all, we got to enjoy an almost front seat after only paying for the 800 tickets. Why? Some rockers broke down the 800 / 1300 barrier for us. Ha ha ha ha ha!

What was my take out of the concert? 2 hours of non-stop rock, and lots of adventures before, during and after ;-)

A very low res video of Billy Sheehan and Paul Gilbert playing Guitar as if their lives depended on it :)

Mr. Big Concert At Palace Grounds In Bangalore, India

Mr. Big, one of my favorite rock bands when I was growing up, is playing at Palace Grounds, Bangalore on October 10th. Wow, this is an International concert and one that I have been dying to go to.

Bangalore, which has been hosts to a number of International acts like Iron Maiden, Deep Purple, INXS, Mark Knopfler, Roger Waters, Bryan Adams, and many more, is finally coming up with another International concert.  Mr. Big who belong to a very special rock genre named ‘shredder metal’ will be rocking angalore and some more cities in the North East of India. I’ve  always thought the North East of India are lucky to have some really obscure rock acts perform there when we never get to see them. But not this time. This time we are all equal :)

Why do I like Mr. Big? It’s because of their musical style which is a blend of blues style singing, neat guitar techniques and above all musical. Their most popular song would be “Wild World” which is an over played song on TV, Radio and on the Internet. However, there are quite a few other songs that I would love to hear them sing, notably

  • Wild World (of course :) )
  • Green Tinted Sixties Mind
  • To Be With You
  • Just Take My Heart
  • Ain’t Seen Love Like That
  • Promise Her The Moon
  • Daddy, Brother, Lover, Little Boy (The Electric Drill Song)
  • Colorado Bulldog
  • Nothing But Love
  • Goin’ Where the Wind Blows

This is a concert to which you can bring your girlfriend or wife also with you. They are going to love the songs.

So, who’s gonna be there? I’ll be there with Nafisa. Yoo hoo hoo hooooooooooooo :)

What about you?

My New Delta And Super Delta Tail Bettas

My friends circle know that I am into betta fishes and some blog readers know that too, I suppose. However, not many would know that I am an absolute crazy and insane person when it comes to bettas. I just love to look at them for hours, period. If you need someone to vouch for that, just  ask Anoop. He wrote a parody of me in his blog about my obsession with fishes.

I have been trying to import some black colored betta splendens from Thailand for some time. I noticed that on aquabid there are quite a few genuine sellers online from Thailand. However, the problem was that their business is not that great to India. So even if they can ship to India none of them were able to give absolute guarantee of delivery live. Normally, bettas survive shipping quite easily. However, I got to know that there are quite a few fish enthusiasts and aquariums importing fish regularly. So I figured it would be easier for them to get my bettas. Still no luck.

In the mean time I came to know from a member of IAH from Pune, Shubhankar, that he is shipping some fish to Bangalore and that he had a pair of Copper Delta Tail Bettas to spare. Wow. I decided to get them immediately on my last month’s incentive money. Hehehe. So went ahead, ordered for them, and received them in good health and cheer yesterday.

I am a bad photographer. But I assure you that the Copper Black Delta Tail pictured above is an amazing specimen. He is eating well and in good health. I will spawn him with the Copper Black Delta Tail Female, also shipped by Shubhankar from Pune. Thanks man. Great stuff.

So, I was at Hayath’s (an IAH member and also a full time Indian Native Fish enthusiast) house collecting the fish sent by Shubhankar. His friend Nikhil, another fish hobbyist, was also there and they both decided to go to Karthik’s nearby. I had no clue who Karthik was. I soon came to know that he was this guy from IAH who is a very serious fish hobbyist. So we went there and found that there was an actual aquarium shop. And the moment I entered I knew that this was a different dimension from previous aquariums I have visited in the past. Why? Because he had the most amazing Super Delta Tailed Bettas I have ever seen outside the internet. Right there in the aquarium.

So I bought one from him. And some live blood worms for my fish.

He was too active to take good pictures. But here’s  one below of my prized fighters showing off.

I am going to breed these buggers and send them off to Nagercoil (to my friend Joel who has a better breeding setup) for more breeding. By the time it is Christmas this year I am sure to see some good results. I hope :)
