Monkeys, Calculators And Cricket Commentators

An interesting post found on the web this week.

Monkeys Using Calculators

A very interesting take on cricket commentators and their inkling towards giving ‘predictions’ based on sketchy or rather less sample of data available.

Loved this  – “One of the lessons I’ve learnt as a poker player—and it applies generally to life as well—is that the quality of your decisions should not be judged by their outcomes. In the short term, too many variables determine the outcome of any action, beyond just the action itself.”

The Ipl Frenzy And The Chennai Super Kings

It all started with ICL. We were staunch followers of ICL. I always thought ICL paved way for a whole new beginning to Indian Domestic Cricket. Kudos to Zee Studios, Kapil Dev and co. for doing a wonderful job.

Now that IPL has jumped into the fray it is more and more fun. Cricket, not one of my favourite sports, has suddenly become a favourite for me. But only the 20-20 (or popularly denoted as T20) format of the game is fun for me. Who would have thought I will one day become a fan of cricket again? Hmmm…

One thing that bothered me is that the BCCI does not recognize ICL. They don’t have to, of course. But BCCI should not hamper ICL by putting a lot of dumb rules like, no official grounds for ICL, players in ICL will never play in the Indian team, etc. I mean, they play in ICL because they don’t get chances anyway. Hehehehe. Also, so many more people get a chance to play the game they love. And there are so many more jobs to be taken. At least in the name of economy don’t hamper the ICL venture. The stupid BCCI, just like a lot of other people and companies, is only concentrating on their ego and think they are a supreme power. A word of caution here – BCCI, you know what happened to KPS Gill just now, don’t you?

So, coming back to the topic of this post. I love these awesome Chennai teams. For the first time in life I am proud of one team. To tell you the truth I never felt so much about the Indian team. I did when I was a kid. But not anymore. Right now it is either the Chennai Super Stars of the ICL or the Chennai Super Kings of the IPL. The first four matchesx of the CSK were bloody victories with yesterday’s match a loss. But that’s nothing to worry. We’ve got Dhoni, the most expensive player in the IPL, who is a master strategician. I knew the CSK may lose one or two matches after Hayden and Hussey left to play for their home country, Australia, against the West Indies. But, Dhoni is bound to bring the team back in form. Just wait and see.

Above, Dhoni in form.

My most memorable match was the one against the Royal Challengers Bangalore. The reason was that I was near the ropes watching the game being played out live at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore. That was amazing and was a big eye opener. It gave me a lot of perspective about how the game is actually played on the field and I could feel the tension in the air. The awe inspriing knock by Dhoni was superb to watch on the field. When Bangalore came to bat I thought it was all over. They were extremely well placed with getting a very good run rate over after over. But then, as usual, Dhoni, managed to turn the tables over. Kudos to one of the greatest captains from India, M S Dhoni.

Below, the cheque for most number of sixers.

I am itching to watch the next match in Bangalore now!

Anoop The Expert On Indian Cricket And Hockey

I got this from one of Anoop‘s comments on my post long time back. I just can’t imagine now that Anoop can write a long comment like this. Hehehe… So here it is:

well..I dont know if the Indian team is being selfish these days..their attitude seems a lot different…I just think a lot of players in Indian sport lack fitness and that affects their concentration..I dont believe there is lack of talent..

Imagine school….there is no emphasis on fitness and even young ppl who are serious in their efforts to be professional athletes have fitness sessions only on the weekends. It is only after a certain age (prob 15 or 16 if lucky), that they concentrate on improving fitness on a day to day basis. This is not enough….

Even in Indian hockey..in this world cup..india always took the lead but lost four matches in the last five or ten minutes… This is a serious problem and in cricket you really cannot tell if the player is tired..because if he is, he can still defend the ball and be happy..If he was fit..it would be another story. In kaula Lumpur..the poor boys in blue could not take the heat there and it was very evident… standing even in an hour of soaring temperatures can sap the life out of you..If you are not fit..no point!!!

The pitch there played the same during both innings..but there was a distinct difference in batting after the indians had fielded all day and then went to bat during the second innings!!!..why?? Pressure? i dont think so!

During the Chappel-Ganguly wars..just read some of the articles..Ganguly opposed Chappel cuz he could not take some of the tough training sessions..Chappel was bemused cuz he thought those training sessions were elementary..! Now you know why the Aussies are kicking serious ass!

Some Indian players look like they need Liposuction!..well cant blame them man…some of them probably had parents like some of us..he he..go to school..read books..do homework..what play??????? be a scientist!!!!! excercise?? who are you??? jakie Chan>????

Well as far as indian mentality is concerned..If parents did push their kids to fitness at an early age..chances are that the kid would bunk it anyway in typical rebellious fashion and go to CSI hostel ground and drink beer on the sly..Catch 22!

Official Chokers – Indian Cricket Team

You think South African cricket team ‘chokes’ in big matches? Well, think again. We’ve got a clear winner this time – the Indian cricket team. What a pathetic bunch on losers they were yesterday against Srilanka.

Come home and smile for the cameras and get more money to buy your houses and fancy cars. That’s all you can do anyways right?

They cant run. They cant catch. They cant even wield the bat.

I am sure they wont get sex from their wives/girlfriends until the next World Cup, not even if they go to a brothel in India.

I don’t want to waste my time  anymore on these bunch of lard buckets.

On Cricket

I was once a great fan of cricket. I used to love cricket. I used to fight and cry for cricket. Fight ok, but what does cry mean? Yeah, I used to cry when I was a kid when India lost. In fact, it turned out that I had to cry quite too often. I always hoped that the Indians would deliver in the end. I mean, how hard is it when there are so many great Indian cricketers and it is the most revered sport right now in India. But what did I see? Our beloved (sarcasm intended) cricket team will always lose when it counts. When did I see them win a major tournament? Err…I think, no we didn’t, err…I fucking can’t remember.

So it quite naturally turned out that I started hating cricket as a game. Why? Not because I was un-patriotic, but God forbid, because I was a patriot. Yes, that’s correct my friend. I couldn’t bear to watch India lose time after time, finals after finals (because unlike the sportstar who said participation is all that counts, sometimes you just bloody have to win).

And another classic example today. Since I don’t watch cricket I was not aware of the “crucial” match between India and West Indies today until my bro came in and wanted me  to connect to cricinfo for the match scores. And what did I see? India lose an easily winnable match by losing 5 quick wickets. I mean, how hard is to remember that you don’t just bloody don’t try to loft the ball when you’ve got lots of balls left and less runs to win the match. What the fuck is wrong with these Indian cricketers (except for a few like Dravid whom I respect more than the others)? Ok, lets see. You’re not a batsman, and you are a bowler and you are asked to defend the wickets. What do you do when there IS a batsman on the other end? Just defend you bloody mongrel (thats for the bowlers who got out giving catches to the Aussies). And the saga continues. Welcome home moneymongers. I hope you all eat the money and die because of acid indigestion.

And this attitude happens closer to home as well. I mean, we can see this everywhere not only on the internationa or national level. We had a match like this over at IBM (yeah, at last I say where I work on my blog) between different teams in Bangalore. When our team played against and obviously better team all the so-called “players” got out leaving me and sanjeeb on the wickets left to defend our dignity. Which we did by the way. But thats not the point. All the so-called “batsmen” were out for catches trying to be heroes. That’s like being stupid, impotent and premature ejaculation all rolled into one.

Now I know what the mass mentality of us Indians is. We are all fucking individual heroes who never can stand each other and can’t work together. A classic example would be how the game of cricket is being played.
