The police have now blocked traffic to the entire stretch and are now searching the area.

The live bomb, which was found near Forum Mall in Koramangala area, was planted by a man of 25-26 years of age this morning, Bangalore Police Commissioner S Bidri told reporters.

“We received information this morning at around 10:45 am that an unknown person wearing a red T-shirt placed a bucket like object. We immediately sent the bomb disposal squad to the site which successfully defused the bomb,” Bidri said.

The Police Commissioner added that the bomb contained material similar to the one used in yesterday’s blasts.

The IT city continues to remain on high alert after yesterday’s blasts. Security has been beefed up in areas with high density of population, defence and space establishments, the State Secretariat, the High Court, IT firms, railway stations, bus stops and the airport.

Some advise to people in Bangalore:

Although no one has claimed responsibility for the blasts, sources in the Union Home Ministry say Pakistan-based Lashker-e-Toiba along with the local support of SIMI could be responsible.

Police sources in Bangalore however say the nature of the attack points at the Bangladesh outfit HuJI.

There are reports that a Karnataka police team left for Hyderabad on Friday night to interrogate an MBA student who was arrested on July 15 in the city. They hope to interrogate Mohammed Muqeemudin Yasir, brother of Raziuddin Nasir, who was arrested on January 29 on charges of organising terror-training camps in the forests near Hubli, Karnataka.

The IT city, meanwhile, is on high alert after yesterday’s attack. Police have beefed up security in areas with high density of population, defence and space establishments, the State Secretariat, the High Court, IT firms, railway stations, the central bus station and the airport.

Crude bombs concealed near refugee camps, a drain and a bus shelter stuffed with nuts and bolts, exploded between 1:30 pm and 1:45 pm at Adugodi, Madivala, Nayandahalli, Mysore Road, Richmond Circle, Pantharapalya and Vittal Mallya Road. One explosion occurred later in the evening.

The authorities have cordoned off the entire locality and sniffer dogs are being used for further clues. Mobile networks have been jammed and major artery roads have clogged due people rushing back home.

Bidri (Police Commissioner) said that the incident looked pre-planned. He also appealed to Bangaloreans not to panic as the situation was fully under control now.

The pattern and intensity of blasts indicate the explosions were meant to cause panic rather than claim casualties.

Update 2:

Excerpt from Zee News:

The explosions took place within a span of 15 minutes, starting at 1:45 pm. The sites that were on terror target were Madiwala, Adugodi area in Koramangla, Hosur Road, Nayandahalli and Shivaji Nagar on Mysore Road.

All the sites are located in the southern part of the city, some in the tony parts of town, hosting several upmarket malls. These are well visited with Madiwala being one of the biggest markets of the city. The blast here took place at the bus stand.

All the wounded have been rushed to nearby hospitals for medical aid. Some have admitted St John’s and Mallya hospitals.

Elaborating on the modus operandi, the Police Commissioner said that timer devices were used and iron bolts were fixed to explosives to increase damage. He added that each explosion had the intensity of 1-2 hand grenades.

According to Reuters “Local television said one person had been killed. Local television showed what appeared to be damage from at least one low-intensity blast at a site in the city.”

Update 1:

  • Five blasts in Bangalore, three dead
  • Blasts at Nayandahallil, Annapanya and Madiwala
  • Bomb squads rushed to blast sites

Looks like there are some bomb blasts that have just happened in Bangalore. This looks scary and there is no actual news available. As per NDTV it looks like there have been five blasts with 4 injured. Bomb squads are being sent to all these places.

What has the world come to? Bangalore? I love this place dammit. Leave us alone!
