It all started when a blogger from registered in IndiBlogger.in wanted to know how to add social bookmarks to blogger.com. And soon I noticed that there were more bloggers requesting help for the same. So I thought it was better that I put down a blog post about this. And here goes my tutorial on how to add social bookmarks to blogger.com.

First things first, blogger.com does not currently have a provision to add Social Bookmarking to blogs hosted at blogger.com. However, there are work arounds that work really well. Below is a tutorial of how one such workaround will put up Social Bookmarking on your blogger.com blog.

To start off you need some help from 3rd party websites like AddThis. Visit http://www.addthis.com/web-button-select and select the social bookmarking button you like. Then select ‘on a blog’ and ‘Blogger’ platform as I have shown in picture below and click on the “Get your button code” button.

addthis

Then you will see the next page where you can copy the code to be inserted into your blogger.com template. Copy the code and paste it on a notepad or just leave the window open.

code

In a new window, log in to www.blogger.com with your username and password. Once logged in you will see your dashboard. From the dashboard click on the layout link that will take you to edit the layout of your blog.

layout

Then click on Edit HTML link to edit your template.

edit_html

Then select the check box that says “Expand Widget Template”.

expand_widgets

Then do a search for the tag <div class=’post-footer’> in the template. Copy and paste the Social bookmarking widget code below this tag.

add_code

Once that is done, click on Save Template as indicated with arrows above.

And that’s it, Social Bookmarking has been added to your blog. Have fun making your blog readers add your blog posts to Digg, Delicious and other Social Bookmarking sites.

Do visit http://awesomephoto.blogspot.com/ for a live demo. This is an old blog of mine which has now becomeAwesome Photos – http://awesomefotos.com/.

You can also download social-bookmarks-on-blogger as a PDF file for easy offline reference.

The indiblogger team is back at their respective places after another successful meet. The Pune indiblogger meet had the charm, action, inaction, boredom, funny moments, interesting moments, awe inspiring stories, pizzas, etc. that were found in the previous two meets. Thanks Vineet for taking the initiative and bringing the meet to a grand success.

The intro video Vineet had done for the Pune blogger meet was fantastic and can be downloaded here.

This time the media was also present with two articles appearing on the Sunday edition of Express and Times. And we had a “celebrity blogger” – Just a mother of two, who also happens to write for another magazine.

The skit with some help from a couple of volunteers went quite well. Great!

And some great reviews online at the following sites. Thanks guys! Thanks for attending and having fun at the meet. Please read the reviews below for detailed meet related stuff.

I took away some very interesting things from this meet. I am not going to say what they are since I am looking at the next blogger meet.

And Microsoft was also good at the presentation and people were amazed that livewriter was free. Seriously!

I am sorry, if I am not mentioning anybody specially in this post. Its just that I suffer from short term and long term memory loss. Really!

Below is a picture of the indiblogger thug team.

P.S:- I was unable to find the online versions of the newspaper articles. If anyone finds them, please let me know. Cheers!

This whole indiblogger thing is totally getting me interested. Actually, the whole indiblogger team is excited about the amount of positive response we are getting on the Indian blogosphere perspective, not to mention the media articles.

We truly believe this to be a revolution in the Indian blogosphere.

Awesome Hyderabad Indiblogger Meet

The Hyderabad indiblogger meet along with event sponsor Microsoft was a great success. One great thing we as the indiblogger team realized was that there is a big student blogger population that not many bloggers are really aware of. We had a sizeable number of bloggers from IIIT, Hyderabad. They were a bunch of cool / nerdy / techie / bloggers. Very interesting!

Some reviews are given below along with excerpts:

http://sudeepdsouza.blogspot.com/2008/03/hyderabad-indiblogger-meet.html

On the whole it was nice to meet many of the people who commented on my blog and make new friendships and relationships. Hoping that there will be more meets like this in the future to build the blogging community in India that is sure to explode onto the world stage. Thank you Indiblogger, Balaji and all the folks from Microsoft for making this meet happen.

I think it was a good thing on the part of the indiblogger team to organize the event and would like to thank them for the opportunity provided by them for the bloggers of Hyderabad to come and meet each other.

There was one interactive event where u had to identify your comments . And then do a small “Shake ur booty” kindaa step .

And a pic, of course.

Indiblogger Featured In The Hindu

I wrote a long post and my system hung. Damn! Let me start again.

One of the surprises at Chennai last weekend was when Renie suddenly pulled out the Metro Plus edition of The Hindu. It featured an article on indiblogger. That was extremely amazing for all of us.

An excerpt: “And your new blog buddies don’t need to stay in cyberspace. You can create and organise blogger meetings through the website for bloggers in specific locations with specific interests.”

You can read the article at this link.

Apparently, we were also featured in the  Hyderabad edition of Metro Plus on the 25th. That’s awesome. This article also had a sentence on the upcoming bloggers meet in Hyderabad.

And looking at the number of registrations on the Hyderabad bloggers meet page at indiblogger it probably will be bigger than the Bangalore indiblogger meet. Can’t wait to be on the roll again.
